Basic but Very Important Principles of Intimate Hygiene

In the opinion of gynecologists, many women don’t pay much attention to the hygiene of the intimate places – not so much because of the lack of desire and effort as due to lack of knowledge. So for example, unjustified from a medical viewpoint, many women believe that an appropriate way of intimate hygiene is the use of soap or running water and a douche.

Basic but Very Important Principles of Intimate Hygiene

Unfortunately in many countries it is not yet sufficiently popular the use of marketed special means of intimate hygiene.

A soap and chlorinated water degrades the natural microflora of the vagina and deprived it of the protection against bacteria.

It has been shown that in women with a healthy lining of the vagina there is a less risk of infection with HIV – 1 in 150 contacts.

The most common cause of breaches in the balance of the vagina is the foam that gets into it. If this happens only once, the danger is not so big, but frequent cases contribute to the disruption of the microflora, leading to dysbiosis.

In half of the cases the first symptom of dysbacteriosis is unpleasant “fishy” smell that cannot be removed with any home remedies. Dysbacteriosis may also contribute to the daily release of secretion.

Gynecologists claim that the elementary procedure of washing, especially during the monthly cycle, should be implemented in strict rules:

  • With hot water and clean hands no less than twice a day in the direction from front to back, it is best to use intimate gel with plant extract that doesn’t cause dryness and irritation, but refreshes and deodorizes. Particularly suitable is considered the gel with extracts of bitter almond, known since the ancient times.
  • With soap one should wash only the outside skin.
  • Do not direct a strong stream of water into the vagina. It will not only wash away the protective secretion, but also will contribute to the entry of harmful bacteria into the uterus, increasing the risk of inflammation.
  • Sponge is not necessary – it can cause microscopic scratches on the delicate and sensitive skin. For the same reason the drying should be done with a soft towel.
