Simple Tips Get Rid of Plaque, Tartar and Bad Breath

Are you dreaming of a bright smile and white and healthy teeth? Forget the harsh chemicals and prefer simple and natural remedies that help remove tartar, plaque and eliminate bad breath.

Like any part of the body, the teeth need attention and maintenance to be healthy. Various factors can affect the teeth and promote the formation of dental plaque, calculus, and bad breath:

  • Smoking
  • Poor diet
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Excessive consumption of certain beverages, such as coffee and soda

It is therefore important to take care of your teeth by limiting the consumption of sweet and fatty foods, but also maintaining a good oral hygiene. Here are some tips that will help you have healthy teeth:

1. Brush your teeth properly

Dentists emphasize the importance of brushing the teeth properly. It is not advisable to brush your teeth up and down, as it erodes the gums. Instead, make circular movements to massage the teeth and gums. The tooth brush bristles should touch the gums, because this part is the home to most bacteria.
Dentists recommend brushing your teeth for 2 minutes and equitably allocate the time on each side of the mouth.
If you notice that your gums bleed when you brush the teeth, it means that you do it in an improper manner.

2. Use strawberries and baking soda for whiter teeth

Teeth whitening kits can be effective, but not safe, because of the chemicals they contain. It is therefore more healthy and economical to opt for this natural remedy, to have white teeth and a bright smile.
You only need two ingredients: strawberries and baking soda.
Mix 8 strawberries and half a teaspoon of baking soda, until you get a dough; then apply the mixture on your teeth. Try to rub the mixture for 1 to 2 minutes on your teeth for best results. This trick is to be practiced once a week.

  • Baking soda has mild abrasive properties that eliminate strains of tea, coffee and cigarette without scratching the enamel of the teeth.
  • Strawberries are rich in ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) that acts effectively against teeth yellowing.

3. Brush your teeth before breakfast

Brushing the teeth after eating sugary or acidic foods is not a good idea. In fact, brushing will cause friction of juices on the teeth; which can damage the enamel. It is best to brush the teeth before breakfast and about an hour after the meal, so that saliva can neutralize the acids that attack the teeth.
Also be sure to brush your teeth before sleep, because this is the time of the day when you produce less saliva. Saliva plays a protective role; thereby reduced secretion causes growth of bacteria that can cause cavities.

4. Use an electric toothbrush

The electric toothbrush is not only easier to use, but also more effective against plaque.
According to a study by the Cochrane, the brush with sonic electric toothbrushes and oscillating-rotating movement would be able to remove plaque and prevent infections through their vibrations.

5. Brush the tongue

Brushing the tongue should be as systematic as that of the teeth. Indeed, the tongue contributes to food cutting process by distributing it between the teeth. This means that it collects as many bacteria as the teeth. It becomes worse if you neglect brushing the tongue since it is the cause bad breath.
It is important to brush your tongue to remove bacteria and have fresh breath. For this, use a toothbrush or tongue scraper which is a bit softer.

6. Use dental floss

Use dental floss after brushing the teeth; it cleans the areas that the brushes don’t reach. These small spaces between the teeth are usually where the bacteria rampant.
It is therefore advisable to incorporate the floss in your oral hygiene routine to prevent the transformation of bacteria in dental plaque.
Moreover, according to several American dentists, flossing helps increase life expectancy, while people with gum inflammation can be prone to coronary heart disease.
This can be explained by the fact that the dental floss removes bacteria from the gums, which are not dislodged, since they can enter the bloodstream and cause an alteration of the arterial walls.
