Cruciferous foods such as cauliflower and broccoli cause bloating because they are rich in sulfur, increasing the amounts of hydrogen sulphide, which in turn increases gas production.

On the other hand, white potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and the onion family (garlic, onions, leeks) contain substances that cause stress in the digestive system, therefore causing bloating.

Foods you can eat

Prefer foods low in soluble fiber and rich in nutrients (minerals, potassium, vitamins, antioxidants). Go for strawberries, bananas and kiwis, these fruits are rich in potassium and have powerful diuretic properties helping to remove toxins from the body.

Opt for foods high in insoluble fiber such as spinach, lettuce and wheat bran, foods with a high probiotic content such as yogurt. They help to improve digestion and increase the good bacteria level the intestine.

Avoid chewing gum

The chewing gum contains xylitol, sorbitol and mannitol, compounds that stimulate the production of gas in the gastrointestinal tract, leading to bloating. Furthermore, by chewing the gum, you swallow more air, which can cause flatulence and bloating.

Reduce the consumption of dairy products

What is the one of the main symptoms of lactose intolerance? Bloating! Low consumption of dairy products is one of the first solutions to be adopted to solve this problem.
Avoid white cheese, whole milk products and mold cheeses. Replace these products with hard cheese and skim milk, ideally goat.

Don’t talk while eating

When you eat, do not talk to avoid ingesting a lot of air and cause bloating. Taking the time to eat quietly and without much talk, will also allow you to chew your food better and promote a feeling of satiety.

Relax

Stress increases the production of adrenaline, which can over-stimulate the digestive system and therefore cause bloating and gas. Try to relax by practicing yoga or regular physical activity.
