How to Use Basil Essential Oil for Anxiety and Depression

Are you restless, sleepless or have a lack of concentration? Are you often engaged in major depression or anxiety? The solution to your problem may be the basil essential oil, which can also be used to relieve a variety of other health problems, such as cramps, headaches and menstrual disorders.

Basil, which originally comes from India and Persia, can be found in many home gardens or balconies today. It has always been considered a sacred plant that is capable of treating a variety of ailments. Its comprehensive property in treating many ailments is already used in Ayurvedic medicine. In ancient Rome it was believed that its pungent odor haunts demons. Today the basil is indispensable in Mediterranean cuisine, where dishes cannot be imagined without a pinch of this aromatic spice.

Basil essential oil and health

Basil essential oil is recognizable by the green-yellow color and quite sharp smell. It has many medicinal properties and effects that are associated with relief of both physical and spiritual ills. Basil essential oil is excellent for relieving depression, reducing restlessness, increase in concentration, insomnia elimination and intensifying of concentration.

Moreover, the smell of basil soothes and relaxes, but also helps in muscle pain, flatulence, bronchitis, headache and migraine, menstrual disorders, colds, flues, ear and sinus infections, fever, coughing, etc.

How to use it?

A few drops of basil essential oil can quickly spread its smell in the surrounding. Or you can put a drop of the oil on the handkerchief, and smell it from time to time. If you suffer from depression, you can even put a drop of peppermint essential oil.

Colds and other respiratory problems

If you have cold or have other problems related to breathing, in a bowl with hot water, add baking soda and two drops of basil essential oil. If desired, you can add two drops of eucalyptus essential oil, tea tree essential oil or lemon essential oil. Just put a towel on your head and inhale a few minutes, twice a day.

Hair care

If your hair is falling or you want to enhance or accelerate its growth, prepare a lotion from vegetable oil by adding 10 to 15 drops of basil essential oil in it (you can also add rosemary essential oil). Shake well, and the lotion is ready for use. Apply it on a dry hair, let it stay for an hour and then wash your hair with your regular shampoo.

Note: Basil essential oil is not recommended for pregnant women and epileptics

Basil essential oil can cause miscarriage, so it should not be used by pregnant women. It should not be also used by epileptics. Use basil essential oil with moderation and caution, since it can be toxic if used in large doses. Always use diluted basil essential oil.
