Vitamins are organic substances that the body needs to function well, but it cannot synthesize them entirely. Therefore, nutritionists recommend a healthy, balanced diet that ensures proper and adequate nutritional intake. Moreover, when a vitamin deficiency occurs, several symptoms appear. In what follows, we have grouped together the common symptoms that show a vitamin deficiency.
Sometimes we notice the appearance of some ailments and certain changes in different parts of our body, without determining the exact cause. Lack of certain vitamins is one of the few causes. According to a study, 10 to 50% of the population in industrialized countries is deficient in most vitamins, especially in vitamin D during the winter, which reaches 80 to 90% of the population.
Vitamin deficiency symptoms:
- Cracked lips
Chapped lips, is one of the telltale signs of a lack of vitamins and minerals, including zinc, iron and vitamins B2, B3 and B12. These deficiencies are generally present among vegetarians.
Solution: To remedy this and have hydrated and beautiful lips, it is advisable to consume a larger amount of chard, nuts, legumes (lentils), poultry, fish (tuna and salmon), eggs and seafood. For better absorption of iron, remember to consume vitamin C, present in broccoli, red peppers, cabbage and cauliflower.
- Muscle cramps, severe pain in the fingers, wrists, feet, legs and back
These appear from deficiency or imbalance of minerals, including potassium, calcium and magnesium, needed for healthy bones and muscles and to ensure their proper functioning. Their lack in the body can be caused by excessive stress or excessive sweating due to strenuous physical activity.
Solution: Eat more foods rich in these three minerals. Among them are: bananas, almonds, hazelnuts, zucchini, apple, grapefruit, broccoli, cherries and dark leafy green vegetables.
