Summer is the time when we take out our pretty little feet which were long smothered in thick socks and shoes. But if the heels are cracked many women feel embarrassed to reveal them. If this is the case for you too, don’t panic. Here are two recipes to solve these problems quickly.
The feet are often the most neglected part of the body, especially in winter. When they don’t receive care or are not regularly hydrated, they can be prone to calluses, corns or crevices.
It is important to know that the skin of the foot is fragile. By undergoing daily pressure during walking, it can easily crack. This effect is actually a kind of skin defense mechanism to protect itself. It secretes keratin so that its surface becomes thicker, which results in corns. Corns can then turn into cracks, if the skin lacks hydration.
Note that wearing uncomfortable shoes, standing for long time, diabetes, thyroid disorders and overweight are factors that can encourage the appearance of corns or cracked heels.
If your cracked heels also prevent you from putting your pretty summer sandals and hinder you in everyday life, try these two simple remedies for smooth feet.
Remedy 1: Aspirin and lemon juice
– 10 aspirin pills
– 1/8 cup lemon juice
Start by crushing the aspirin pills and turn them into powder, then add the lemon juice. Apply the mixture on your wet feet and keep it for 10 minutes before rinsing with water. Do not forget to apply a moisturizer afterwards.
Aspirin will help soften the corns to facilitate their removal. Salicylic acid contained in aspirin has an exfoliating action that helps get rid of dead skin and make the skin softer.
Remedy 2: Glycerin and rose water
Mix some glycerin and rose water and apply on your cracked heels. Keep it for 15 minutes, and rinse with cold water.
Glycerin is well known for its moisturizing properties and will thus nourish the skin, while rose water will promote healing.
In general, cracked heels, corns and calluses are a cosmetic problem, and are mainly caused by lack of care. Be sure to have good foot hygiene, exfoliate regularly and don’t miss to hydrate the feet to prevent these problems and have a soft skin foot. Exfoliation will help remove dead skin to allow the skin to absorb moisturizers. Castor or coconut oil are also excellent options to nourish the skin. The ideal would be to apply them in the evening and leave overnight.
It is also advisable to encourage wearing comfortable shoes, to prevent the foot from suffering more pressure.
