If you have while surfing the net saw the image of two grandmothers, one is sad and strained to a wheelchair taking lots of medications and the other one happy, fit, and active, then you have seen Ernestine Shepherd, an elderly woman completely different from her peers. She is 80 years old and the oldest female bodybuilder.
She is a remarkable woman who is still a competitive female bodybuilder, entering the Guinness Book of World Records, where she holds a record. She is a living proof that you are never too old to start to exercise, and take care of your body.
Interestingly enough, is the fact that she did not exercise when she was young, she started later in her life. Ernestine Shepherd was born on June 16th, 1936, and it never occurred to her that she would be the oldest bodybuilder, yet much later in her life she began this lifestyle, especially after her sister’s death from brain aneurysm. Likewise, health problems occurred, like high blood pressure, and instantly she decided that she has to do something about her body and health.
Nowadays, she has healthy daily routines. Namely, she wakes up at 3 am, follows a calorie-controlled diet of boiled egg whites, chicken, vegetables, and lots of water, and runs about 80 miles (130km) per week.
Her motto is “never give up” which is her secret to success. This video of this remarkable woman will show you why you should never give up regardless your age.
