Strokes occur due to problems with the blood supply to the brain: either the blood supply is blocked or a blood vessel within the brain ruptures, causing brain tissue to die. A stroke is a medical emergency, and treatment must be sought as quickly as possible.
More than a million Americans have heart attacks each year. Aheart attack, or myocardial infarction (MI), is permanent damage to the heart muscle. “Myo” means muscle, “cardial” refers to the heart, and “infarction” means death of tissue due to lack of bloodsupply.
Energy drinks can be found in every store and nowadays are extremely popular. People are buying them more than they buy bottled water and they are becoming the most acquired products from the beverage business.

An energy drink is a type of beverage containing stimulant drugs, chiefly caffeine, which is marketed as providing mental and physical stimulation. They may or may not be carbonated and many also contain sugar or other sweeteners, herbal extracts and amino acids. They are a subset of the larger group of energy products, which includes bars and gels, and distinct from sports drinks, which are advertised to enhance sports performance. There are many brands and varieties of energy drinks.
A new study showed that energy drinks cause more forceful heart contractions, which could be harmful to some with certain heart conditions. One study showed that between 2009 and 2011 there were 4854 calls to poison control centers regarding energy drinks. 51% of these calls were involving children.
Do energy drinks have health benefits?
The study authors examined the most common ingredients – caffeine, guarana, taurine, ginseng, sugars and B vitamins – and assessed their effects on health. Levels of caffeine, the main ingredient, vary widely between brands. Energy drinks may contain higher levels of caffeine than indicated on the label.
Who should avoid energy drinks?
As written before they are forbidden for children and also:
- Have prolonged periods of anxiety or stress
- Pregnant or lactating
- Have high blood pressure
- Sensitive to caffeine
- Have a predisposition to cardiovascular disease

Deadly when combined with alcohol
Energy drinks are beverages that typically contain caffeine, other plant-based stimulants, simple sugars, and other additives. They are very popular among young people and are regularly consumed by 31% of 12- to 17-year-olds and 34% of 18- to 24-year-olds.
After few deaths as a result of mixing alcohol and Red Bull together, Denmark and France forbidden this energy drink sale.
An Italian study was published in a journal Clinical Autonomic Research Society which wrote about a young volleyball player who consumed higher amount of Red Bull and was diagnosed with “postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) associated with a vasovagal reactio”.
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is defined by excessive heart rate increments upon upright posture. A person with POTS will experience heart rates that increase 30 beats or more per minute upon standing and/or increase to 120 beats or more per minute upon standing. These exaggerated heart rate increases usually occur within 10 minutes of rising.
