It sounds unbelievable but when you go to the saloon to do your hair you should always be careful when you use the sink where your hairdresser washes your hair. It can cause damage to blood vessels in your neck, which in turn leads to a stroke.
That is what happened to one woman who noticed these symptoms after leaving the salon.
The main symptoms of stroke are as follows:
- Confusion, including trouble with speaking and understanding
- Headache, possibly with altered consciousness or vomiting
- Numbness of the face, arm or leg, particularly on one side of the body
- Trouble with seeing, in one or both eyes
- Trouble with walking, including dizziness and lack of co-ordination.
What is a stroke?
Strokes occur due to problems with the blood supply to the brain: either the blood supply is blocked or a blood vessel within the brain ruptures, causing brain tissue to die. A stroke is a medical emergency, and treatment must be sought as quickly as possible.
The effects of a stroke depend on which part of the brain is injured, and how severely it is injured. Strokes may cause sudden weakness, loss of sensation, or difficulty with speaking, seeing, or walking. Since different parts of the brain control different areas and functions, it is usually the area immediately surrounding the stroke that is affected. Sometimes people with stroke have a headache, but stroke can also be completely painless. It is very important to recognize the warning signs of stroke and to get immediate medical attention if they occur.
In the hair salon:
While your hair is being washed put some towels to adjust your neck and be careful while resting the back of your head on the sink.
High blood pressure and stroke:
High blood pressure (hypertension) is the most important known risk factor for stroke. High blood pressure can cause damage to blood vessel walls, which may eventually lead to a stroke.
Take care of your high cholesterol, reduce the amount of salt and sugar also get plenty of exercises.
Always remember the signs of the stroke and get to the hospital as soon as possible.
