Here Are Natural Ways That Will Improve Your Eyesight

Protecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. Nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E might help ward off age-related vision problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts, studies show.

Your eyes are an important part of your health. There are many things you can do to keep them healthy and make sure you are seeing your best. Follow these simple steps for maintaining healthy eyes well into your golden years:

  1. Eye Exercises

Self-help programs of eye exercises that claim to reduce or eliminate your need for glasses and contactshave been around since the 1920s. But before you spend time and money on anything that promises you will be able to “throw away your glasses,” be aware that these programs remain highly controversial and most vision experts contend there is little or no scientific evidence that shows they work.

Here is a basic form of eye exercise that you can do anywhere:

  • Hold a pencil at arm’s length and try to focus on it.
  • Bring the pencil close to your nose and then move it farther from your vision until you lose focus.
  • Repeat this exercise at least ten times daily.
  • Simply roll your eyes in clockwise direction for a few seconds.
  • Roll the eyes in a counter clockwise direction for a few seconds
  • Repeat both clockwise and counterclockwise eye movement at least four or five times daily.
  • Do not forget to blink in between sets.
  1. Palming and Sunning

The purpose of palming and sunning helps keep the eyes young and flexible and allow you to take in natural full spectrum sunlight with ease. The sun is very beneficial for the eyes if taken in moderation and in proper technique. Comfort is always your guide. Many people suffer from “mal-illumination” or lack of full spectrum natural sunlight. After sunning, you can then move on to palming. Rub your palms together in order to generate heat. Once your palms are warm, you may then cup your palms over your closed eyelids. Make sure not to apply pressure on your eyes.

  1.  Acupressure and Acupuncture

Acupressure is a science with wide uses and here are a few important acupressure points for eyes or ailments related to the eyes. The eyes are an extremely delicate part of our body and yet have great control and functionality among the sense organs. Any kind of illness with the eyes not only affects our everyday life but also reduces our efficiency in doing various things.

  1. Gingko Biloba

Some studies have found ginkgo to be effective at lowering the risk for age-related macular degeneration thanks to its platelet-activating factors and prevention of membrane damage caused by free radicals. Vascular factors and oxidative damage are thought to be two primary causes of vision loss and other age‐related eye disorders, but antioxidant plants and herbs like ginkgo help mitigate these effects.

  1. Bilberry

Bilberry is a plant. The dried, ripe fruit and leaves are used to make medicine.

Bilberry is used for improving eyesight, including night vision. In fact, during World War II, British pilots in the Royal Air Force ate bilberry jam to improve their night vision, but later research showed it probably didn’t help. Bilberry is also used for treating eye conditions such as cataracts and disorders of the retina. There is some evidence that bilberry may help retinal disorders.

In other studies, bilberry shows many other health benefits such as reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer and macular degeneration. Bilberry also contains vitamin C, which is another powerful immune-boosting benefit.
