Mites secrete tiny droppings in large quantities and decompose after death, which produces a very fine dust irritating the bronchi. Mites cause skin allergies (redness and itching) and respiratory diseases (difficulty in breathing, asthma attacks). Moreover, in France, 44% of allergies are due to dust mites. Others are caused by dust and pollen. Invisible for the eye, these microscopes creatures like the warm moist environment of our bedding.

How to deep clean a mattress?

There is a simple method to clean the mites; and deep clean your mattress: use baking soda! Here are the steps to follow:

Sprinkle soda bicarbonate over the entire mattress. Let the baking soda stand for a few hours before vacuuming or using a brush to carefully clean mattress dust. Take your time when cleaning to remove as much dust and mites.

You can also use this opportunity to perfume your mattress by adding lavender essential oil, just spray mixture of water and a few drops of essential oil.

Baking soda helps to absorb moisture and remove impurities from your mattress. As for the essential lavender oil, it deodorizes your bedding and provides a soothing scent. Do not put bed linens before the mattress is completely dry.

Alternatively, you can clean your mattress with a steam cleaner. The advantage of this type of cleaning is that it removes tough stains, eliminates dust mites and also disinfects your mattress.

Baking soda is definitely effective against mites! In fact, laboratory studies conducted in 2001 showed that the effectiveness of baking soda is incredible.

It is important to note that soda is not toxic for you. When grains of baking soda comes in moist mucous membranes (eye, lung, mouth, etc.), it dissolves immediately without irritating them.

With its fungicidal properties, baking soda blocks the development of mold. So do not hesitate to use baking soda to clean your mattress because it effectively acts on mites and molds.
